I recently wrote about why it’s is so important to cook with kids. That post has lots of great ways to incorporate learning opportunities and ideas for developing all kinds of skills. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend heading over there and having a read. Because even on the most basic levels, cooking for yourself is a really important life skill! Cooking can, and should be, fun! And while most kids are keen to bake a cake, getting them involved in food preparation for meals etc serves them and you well. Not to mention the interesting science, challenging math, real life reading comprehension and the delicious edible real life results! I beg you to have a read of the last post so you can take advantage of the opportunities that cooking can offer.
In that post, I promised to work up a list of 25 recipes that are great to cook with kids. When I got down to it, it ended up being 31 great recipes! I’ve chosen them because they are easy and have great results. My previous post gives you some ideas about how to include kids of all ages in the process. These recipes are mostly vegetarian or vegan because I am but if you are a meat eating household, don’t be put off! There are plenty of ways to add meats in the cooking process or add cooked meats like rotisserie chicken, cooked sausage or bacon. Some of the meals could be side dishes too. For easy reference, I’ve broken them down into categories for you…
