DIY: Mint & Rosewater Facial Mist {Free Labels & Easy Recipe}

FDIY: Mint & Rosewater Facial Mist {Free Labels & Easy Recipe}

We all have our bad days. Our days when we want to kill the world. And something you guys tell me that there’s just no time left over, after everyone else’s need are met, for a little pampering. I’m going to change your world with this face mist! Five minutes to make and then you can enjoy a quick second of pampering for weeks to come!
I made this for my Mummy & Sister Ask and they loved it! Neither are into faffing around with beauty routines and while both love a bath, neither would light candle or put anything in that bath (cleaning bath oil is a bitch, am I right?). A facial mist will take two seconds, max! And then you get to feel (and smell) scrummy! Of course this makes a great gift too.

The beauty of this mist, is it’s for anyone! A very subtle sheen, locked in moisture and smell that makes you feel like you’ve spent the day at a spa. Chained to desk in that dry of big buildings or with a toddler hanging off your leg. This is the little luxury that could! It’s packed with good skin care and the smell – first that zesty mint to perk you up and then wafts of rose that smell so fragrant and soft. It lasts long enough to be enjoyed but not long enough to cloy. It will lock moisture into a fresh face and perk up afternoon makeup. You can use this before, during and after you makeup or a few times a day on your fresh face to feel…fresh!
I take DIY beauty seriously! No one wants to be unwittingly spraying bacteria onto their face! And DIY beauty products can go bad before you smell or see the change. That’s why I’m careful, right? I used these ingredients very specifically, I’ll explain why I chose them, that way you can make substitutions with care. You’ll notice I never use a plain water, as where there is water there is life (bacteria). This handy article explains that nicely!
  • Witch Hazel – A distillation of the Witch Hazel shrub, it is an astringent that tones the skin. It can assist with swelling & puffiness, tighten pores, reduce sweating and help clear acne. It is a distillation containing alcohol and therefore helps to preserve the face mist. Find it in the chemist or personal care isle at the supermarket.
  • Vegetable Glycerine – A humectant, skin identical ingredient. Meaning it is a substance found in skin, that helps to deal in moisture, maintain the skin barrier and prevent dryness. Find it in the chemist or personal care isle at the supermarket.
  • Vitamin E Oil – An antioxidant oil helps maintain the skin barrier, traps moisture and helps to preserve the face mist. Find it in the chemist or personal care isle at the supermarket as either a bottle of oil or you can pierce vitamin E capsules.
  • Peppermint Essential Oil – Improves blood flow, nourishes dull skin and improves the texture of oily or greasy skin. Also, it smells so refreshing! Find it in the chemist or health food store.
  • Rose Water – A hydrosol (the steam from the distillation of rose petals) that is anti inflammatory, antioxidant and helps strengthen skin cells. Of course it smells heavenly too. Find it in the international foods isle at the supermarket or Indian supermarkets.

This recipe makes half a cup or 125ml. You can halve, double, triple, quadruple and more! Dark glass bottles are best but little plastic ones like mine are fine. Keep your mist in a dark place or even better, the fridge. Should keep 2 months out and up to 6 in the fridge.

  • 50 ml witch hazel
  • 1 tsp vegetable glycerine
  • 5 drops vitamin E oil
  • 5 drops peppermint essential oil
  • Rose water, to bring the mix up to 1/2 cup
  1. Add everything to a sterilized measuring jug and swizz together with something sterile, I fancy pop sticks or a straw.
  2. Pour into spritz bottles and that’s it!

Well, that’s almost it! You might like to add a fancy label too. You can design your own or use mine. I wanted my mist to be my Mums end of day place of peace. If you aren’t a long term reader, Mummy Ask works in psychiatric lock up, hard jobs need big relaxing. My choice of words avoids swearing (no need to be coarse) but still gets the message across. To use my label –  click on the label image and save. I just copy them into Word, arrange to size and print on label paper. Simple!

Before I go I have some texts from Mummy Ask on the mist –

DIY: Mint & Rosewater Facial Mist {Free Labels & Easy Recipe}Yes, that’s real life texts and enjoyment of this little handmade gift! I’m sure you will enjoy it and anyone that you choose to gift it to will be lucky! There are no excuses! Hit the kitchen and stir up this recipe of calm and peace. If you do make it, I’d love to know, so  hit me up on social media xxxx
