Make: DIY Essential Oil Rollerball {Pulse Point Perfume}

Make: DIY Essential Oil Rollerball {Pulse Point Perfume}

I recently made some deliciously scented essential oil Bath Salts for my Mum & Sister. It was a huge success! They not only love how the salts make their skin feel super soft and silky but they adore the scent! So much so, Mum asked if I could make it into a perfume. Of course, I said yes!

Rollerball containers are great for dispensing a small amount of scent and they are very handbag friendly for touch ups on the go. Essential oils should be kept in glass (never plastic) and because essential oils degrade in sunlight, you want a dark colour like blue or brown. I bought my rollerball containers on eBay but you can also find them in some health food type stores where essential oils are sold.

You have no idea how much my girls loved this (and I did too. I made myself one)! We are one of those uber close families. And we all like the same stuff. My sister & my mum have ridiculously similar tastes. Most of us have clothes and other stuff that are exactly the same (see this Onesie Sewing Tutorial). In recent trends, my girls have bought the same bag (very much sold out or I’d link) but Sister has patent and Mum has matte black but both got the matching huge travel wallet in patent. I tote a huge bag, as does my Sister but Mummy Ask is quite minimalist and just chucks her phone in her wallet. How is this relevant to a perfume post? Mum manages to fit her 5ml mini perfume in her purse! (For those in the US I mean wallet). Yes, she loves it that very much! Don’t worry! I have bigger rollerballs coming in the mail, no one will be without!

You can use a blend of which ever essential oils you like but be aware that some oils can cause photosensitivity or irritate sensitive skin. Just make sure you do your homework first. Here’s a list to get you started. I get  mine here.  Because everyone is different and every blend is different, start with less essential oil and build it up till you’re happy. I was working with the following formula:
  • 1 ml of Oil (Grapeseed or Sweet Almond or Avocado or any carrier oil)
  • 3-4 drops of Essential Oil/s
  1. I started by removing the whole rollerball section of the jar. I just gently used some jewelry pliers. Some will come with the bits separate but it’s pretty easy to remove the ball and housing.
  2. I knew my rollerball held 5mls, so I could add 15 -20 drops of essential oil to the container. I know my girls so 20 generous drops went in. I used the bergamot, geranium & patchouli blend I used for the bath salts).
  3. I used a pipette to fill the rollerball up to the shoulder and pressed the roller cap on. I’m pretty sure I bought a bunch of pipettes of eBay an age ago but an eyedropper or syringe from the chemist will cost a few cents and work just as well.

See, that took less than a minute and now you have a glorious gift! Perfectly customizable to whatever ails or just for nice stinky stuff that’s pleasant. We will be collectively wafting our anti anxiety but oh so pleasantly scented stink in your direction. Are you feeling our good karma vibes?  Go make your perfect, custom perfume and waft some this way…..
