This is my third year of Me Made May (MMM) and this year I have pledged to wear three Me Made items per day for the duration of May (if you want to know more, my pledge post has more info on my pledge and MMM). I have come a long way from my first project four years ago. Sewing got me hooked on making things myself and personalizing everything! Which means I am including sewing projects, refashions, heat transfer transformations and all sorts of DIY accessories, bags and adornments. I am posting my outfits daily to facebook, instagram and of course the official flickr group. So please, follow along and let me clog your feed with my OOTD! If you would prefer a more concise version, I will be posting a wrap up like this each week. See week one here and week two here.
For those of you who are DIY or sewing oriented, I have links to the projects (where possible). And for those of you who are terrified to put needle to fabric or get out the glue, I hope you find inspiration! As I say, I have only been sewing for four years and I am aspiring to a 100% me made wardrobe one day. But I am proof that you can definitely start making now and be ready to participate next year. I really love how MMM makes me mindful about what I’ve made – coming up with new combos and ways to make items more usable. I also love how it makes me mindful about what I have, what I need and how to prioritize my making. I always save the photos I share through MMM to folder on my phone. It makes a great reference when I can’t think of what to wear! So let’s see what I threw on this week…

At the beginning of this week I was still sick and glad to be in my sweats and lazing with the cats. When Monday rolled around I was still feeling pretty darn blah but knew I needed to up and get dressed! There is something rather restorative about putting on a nice outfit. I fancied something cute but still soft and warm. Monday’s leopard print Tiramisu dress is made out of sweater knit and with its ¾ sleeves, it’s rather cosy. Sadly, I don’t wear it much because it can look a bit flat, just a bit too brown. It also has a tendency to ride up in the front. I’d considered taking it in at the waist but that didn’t seem the best idea because the fabric is only a little stretchy. Both problems were miraculously solved with the addition of a belt! A Me Made May Miracle!
If not for Me Made May, I might have reached for something else instead. I chose it because I hadn’t found a way to wear and finding one seemed in the spirit of challenge. And I am so glad I did because I am going to wear it all the time now! What better antidote to a dull, wintery day than a leopard sweater knit dress?
The rest of the week was my usual parade of skirts and more skirts. I’m just not sure I ‘get’ pants that aren’t jeans. Plus skirts are amazingly comfy. As the temperature drops, I just add leggings or opaque stockings. And I do mean stockings with a girdle style garter belt – not pantyhose. I seem to be too fat for regular pantyhose and too slim for plus size pantyhose, which makes wearing them a horrible tug of war that lasts all day. I find stockings infinitely more comfortable and somehow the girdle keeps you quite warm. I think I’ll have to bust the stockings out soon, maybe next week…
