Sixth Wedding Anniversary Menu
Nasturtium and mixed leaf salad w shaved parmesan, herbed heart croutons and balsamic glaze dressing
Parmesan Polenta
With a surprise inside!

We started out with Mr Asks Trio Of Fries. Mr Ask prepped his fries similar to this method from Heston Blumenthal and deep fried. For the pickles, they were quartered lengthwise, coated in flour, dipped in an egg and buttermilk mix, dipped in seasoned panko crumbs and deep fried. I’ll be posting the hollandaise sauce recipe very soon. Mr Ask has been tinkering and has hit on a recipe that is easy and also lemony – because we like it like that!

My course, Heart Tarts & Floral Salad, was up next. For the tarts I cut heart shapes from bought all butter puff, docked the centres with a fork and topped them with bought tomato pesto and baby bocconcini. I then baked them for about 15mins in an oven preheated to 210C. Very simple but tasty! For the salad I tore up some mixed salad leaves and shaved in some parmesan and tossed in garlic oil and balsamic glaze. I added the croutons I made earlier (I cut stale bread into hearts, tossed them in garlic oil and dried italian herbs and baked until crisp) and added some nasturtium leaves and flowers from the garden. Both the leaves and flowers are edible and have a peppery taste.

Then my pièce de résistance, Fudge Brownie Piñata Cake with Vanilla Buttercream & Sprinkles! You see, the gift for Sixth Anniversary is candy and Mr Ask LOVES all things sweet! When it comes to cake, he is all about chocolate. I think the whole point of cake is buttercream and sprinkles and childlike fun. This had it all AND a surprise inside! I’ll have the recipe up soon but I will tell you that it is dense and fudgey and OMG. The buttercream is everything I hoped for. But most of all, Mr Ask gasped out a loud Whhhhhhhhhhat when the cake was cut open. Mission Accomplished!
All in all it was perfect! So much fun and so much good food! We pigged out on left overs on Sunday and will be finishing them off for dinner tonight. It may have cost nearly as much as we would have spent in a nice restaurant (we are notorious for our stupidly expensive dining tastes lol) but it was so much more than just a meal. It was a bonding experience. We planned for each other, cooked for each other and shared in the joy of it all together. And maybe I’m coming down from an intense love up combined with a sugar crash lol! It was a great vego menu if you are feeling fancy, so please go ahead and make your own version. S xxxxx
