Did you know May 2014 is National Sewing Month?
This year’s theme is Sewing MAYhem! The Australian Sewing Guild has stuff happening across the country. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be posting details of fabulous Open Days, Fashion Parades and High Teas around Australia, hosted by ASG Neighbourhood Groups to showcase the fun, expertise and sharing within the ASG. Find out what’s happening by clicking here for all the info, you can also select a state to see what’s happening locally. You guys should know how much I love the ASG already and if you are in SA you might want to drop into my group and say Hi!
It’s also Me Made May (MMM14)!! MMM14 is an event hosted by Zoe over at ‘So, Zo… What do you know?’. I participated last year but for those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, I shall quote Zo herself…..
What is MMM’14?
Me-Made-May’14 (MMM’14 for short) is a challenge designed to encourage people who sew/knit/crochet/refashion/upcycle garments for themselves to actually wear and love them. The me-made and self-stitched challenges have been taking place for over four years now and they work on both a personal and community level. The participants decide the specifics of their own challenge pledge, so that the month is appropriate and challenging for them. A very common pledge is for a participant to aim to wear one self-stitched or refashioned garment each day for the duration of May 2014. The participants can also choose to document their challenge with daily photos (though this is in no way compulsory for taking part) and share them with other participants.
Both Mummy Ask & I have pledges for this year:
‘I, Sarah of www.AskSarah.com.au, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’14. I endeavour to wear at least one me made garment each day and complete one sewing project per week for the duration of May 2014’
‘I, Steph (Mummy Ask) of www. AskSarah.com.au sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’14. I endeavour to wear my me made dressing gown (second ever garment & I’m still sewing it!) each day for the duration of May 2014’
I found last years pledge really, really hard. I have sewn so many more garments since them but I am still not sure how I will go! It was really thought provoking as an experience, so I am keen to do it again. Last year I posted everyday to facebook and had blog post with every outfit at the end. This year I will post frequently on facebook but do weekly wrap on the blog.
If you are thinking about learning to sew, taking it up again, adding new skills to your repertoire or just finding more time to stitch – May is your month baby! If you have questions, just ASK Sarah xxxxxx

I look forward to seeing all your outfits this year!
Have fun with this challenge. Because knowing me and how I will just let this challenge fall by the wayside after a few days, I won’t allow myself to participate… Besides, I don’t like taking selfies! 😀
