Isn’t that just the cutest? It reminds me of the hat that Lucy wears to the publisher in the 1945 movie, The Ghost and Mrs Muir. I feel very chi chi wearing it. Before we get to the giveaway details, let’s have a chat with Jodi…..

Giveaway: Uniquely Young Vintage Style Hair Accesories Interview & GIVEAWAY!!!

Why did you choose to giveaway your vintage hair accessories on Ask Sarah?

It all started with a pencil skirt tutorial I saw on reddit. I followed the link to the blog, and was hooked. Soon, I found Ask Sarah posts popping up on Pinterest, Facebook, and anywhere else you can think of. I’ve become a dedicated follower.

Your vintage style hair accessories are just darling! How did you get started?

I LOVE vintage style and I wanted my wedding to showcase that, but I was a bride on a tight budget. Basically everything was DIY (even my five bridesmaids’ dresses!). I undertook making hair accessories for my girls and boutonnieres for his guys. They had turned out better than I thought they would, and everyone kept commenting on them. I continued to make some for friends and family members, honing my craft over the years.

Where do you get your inspiration?

I’m a sucker for nostalgia. I love going through my grandmothers’ pictures and thus seeing the fabulous hats and hairpieces women wore. My family is of mostly German & English decent, and boy did they love their feathers. There was a certain elegance to these pieces, something I try to take & put a modern twist on. I also draw inspiration from glamorous icons from all eras; Gene Tierney, Isabella Blow, Dita Von Teese, Betty Page, Katherine Hepburn, Lisa Freemont, Ava Gardner, and of course, Elizabeth Taylor.

Do you wear vintage style everyday? Tell us about your wardrobe.

I don’t go for an all out vintage look every day, but I try to add some sort of flair into the mix. With two kids, my “me time” is slim to none, but I have small things I can do that don’t take too much time. Eyeliner, mascara, and red lipstick paired with my slightly cat-eyed glasses and an inspired hair accessory give me that vintage edge while wearing jeans & a t-shirt, which, let’s face it, makes it much easier to chase the kids around. When I have an excuse to dress up though, I tend to go all out. Right now, I think my favorite outfit is my black and white polka dot A-line dress paired with hot pink pumps. Under the guidance of my grandmother & great-aunt, I’ve learned how to do pin curls to achieve a more authentic hairstyle to go with my wardrobe.

Do you have any other crafty talents?

I was partially raised by my grandmother; she taught me many a crafty activity. Sewing, knitting, crochet, and cross stitch, I like to think I run the gambit. My friends joke that I have the soul of a 60 year old trapped in a 20-something’s body. My husband and I like to brew beer together, which I also consider a skilled craft.

Where can people buy your creations and do you make custom pieces?

I have an Etsy store and you can get a sneak preview of most of my listings from my Facebook page. I love custom orders because they challenge my creativity. My favorite pieces have been made to specifically match an outfit or a certain person’s tastes.

Okay, we’re interesed! Tell us about you.

I’m a coffee & carb addicted, sci-fi loving mother of two wonderful, rambunctious children, two insane cats, a very strange dog, with a nerdy husband, all who keep me on my toes. When I’m not trying to keep my house/three ring circus in some sort of a living order, I make vintage-inspired hair accessories. Over the past few years, I’ve found this to be a great passion of mine. There is something so alluring about the vintage lifestyle. The glamour of it all, the great icons of the past & present, the confidence boost it gives; I believe it’s something everyone should experience.

And (drumroll please) here are the two AMAZING Uniquely Young Hair Accesories up for grabs…..
