Glam: Beauty Empties & Repurchases

November 10, 2017

I subscribe to loads of beauty YouTube channels and I love ’empties’ videos. I am interested in what these gurus with ridiculously huge makeup collections actually use up. And what they love enough to repurchase. I’ve been saving up my empties for the last couple of months so I can share what I’ve been enjoying lately and why I like it.  I have a much more modest makeup collection! I tend to wear the same basic makeup look everyday, switching up the level of coverage based on my skin, the weather and what I’m doing. You’ll note that there are no lip product empties and that’s because I have way too many lipsticks and I tend to switch between them daily!

Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Shea Butter for Dry or Sensitive Skin
Every time I try to change my cleanser, I come back to this! I end up breaking out or having a rosacea flare up with anything else. It’s just a nice, simple foaming cleanser. I tend to remove my makeup with a cotton round soaked in micellar water and then cleanse. But it will take off makeup too. I never feel to tight or dry afterwards. I’ve been through loads of these! Get it in Myer, David Jones or online.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturiser with SPF15

I have a larger skincare system but I start everyday with moisturiser. This is my go to daily moisturizer because it has a slight shimmer that brightens up my skin and it has SPF15. The SPF is important, I’m okay with having this as my only sun protection if I’m only walking to and from the car. Any more exposure and I need more coverage. I find this works well under all my makeup choices and isn’t too greasy. If I’m feeling frisky or know I will be going the powder foundation route, I will add a tiny drop of highlighter into the mix (I use Becca Liquid Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone). Get it in supermarkets and variety stores.

MAC Paint in Untitled
This a cream to powder eyeshadow that is long wearing and doesn’t crease. I love this and I never see anyone use this! People tend to go for the MAC paint pots instead. I like that it comes in a tube and not a jar, it’s long nail friendly, needs no brush and is more hygienic. The colour is fairly nude, leaning pinky mauve. I find it evens out my eye lids and evens my covers up my xanthomas. It works great on it’s own or as a primer. It lasted aggggges, even though I use it daily and it never got dry or thick. Love, love, love! Get it at MAC stores, counters or online.

NYX Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation in Nude

This is not a high coverage powder foundation but I love it! It can be used over liquid foundation to add extra coverage or on its own with with some well-placed concealer or other spot covers. It sits on the skin beautifully and does really blend it to look like skin. It has a nice velvety finish that really isn’t too flat. The packaging has held up to daily use and comes with a mirror and a separate compartment with a sponge. The sponge is washable and hasn’t broken down with cleaning. It is on the bulkier side for a compact (because the top is domed) but it is still small enough to throw in a bag for on the go touch ups.  It’s also really affordable and comes in loads of colours. As you can see, I’m loving mine to death! Get it in Target, Priceline or Online.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 20 Sand

This is the best of the affordable, high cover concealers! I use this under my eyes but instead of making that Kardashian triangle, I add some to my cheek redness too. I use a rounded brush or a damp beauty blender to blend it under my eyes and across my redness, fading out at the edges of my face and/or redness. You can’t go in with a too light shade but I use this all the time as ‘no foundation’ cover, maybe with some NYX powder foundation too. It leaves a really natural finish. I’ve actually been through a few of these and you can see I’m getting through this one… Get it in supermarkets, pharmacies and online.

Rimmel Day 2 Night Mascara in Black
Definitely my holy grail mascara! It has a big, full brush which is my current preference.  If you open the small black cap, it cleans the extra product off the brush which gives a more day time look but also means you can really wiggle the brush into the base of your lashes without clumping. The bigger pink cap is more loaded with product for more drama. The formula is a perfect wet/dry balance for me and it is very black. I think this is my sixth tube! Get it in supermarkets, pharmacies or wherever they sell Rimmel.
NYX Brow Mascara in Black
I have such trouble with brow products! My natural brows are black and my hair is black, so many products are either too brown/warm/orangey and look weird. So that leaves grey, which looks strangely fuzzy or black which always ends up in sharpie brow territory. This brow mascara adds definition, texture and colour without going to far. It also holds my brows in place. I’ve recommended it to everyone and my whole family use it. The only negative is that the cap always cracks and breaks! Otherwise, perfect! Get it in Target, Priceline or Online.
Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2 in 1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner & Serum in Ultra Black
When I was on the quest to master winged liner, I bought all kinds of eyeliners. This is my winner! It has a brush tip (not a felt tip) that tapers nicely, allowing for a very fine line, a stamping type action or a thick line with more pressure. The cap clicks on, which means it doesn’t dry up prematurely but I find it works best when stored tip down. It’s easy to apply, has very good staying power (but not waterproof) and applies well over all kinds of eye make up. I love this so much, I buy it in bulk from iHerb when they are on sale, much cheaper than buying in Australia – crazy! Get it from Priceline or iHerb online.
