Lipstick is my total thing. From a toddler to today, nothing has fascinated me like red lipstick. Maybe it’s in my patterned programming or perhaps it’s because what it does for my face. Lipstick just brings my face to life and my favourite colour is RED! I won’t tell you how many red lipsticks I own (on the grounds that it may incriminate me) but it is a pretty vast collection. These days most of mine are matte liquid lipsticks because they are so long wearing. Sure, they can be drying but the long wearing aspect is worth it. I have tried a huge number of red liquid lipsticks and I am planning a big smack down post that compares them all but I just had to share this bargain – right now!
In the course of my usual supermarket rummaging, I noticed that Coles are now stocking Australis and a budget brand called Mode (which I have seen it in some chemists too). I was curious about the super inexpensive liquid lipsticks in the Mode line, so I got to Googling. Mode is made by Heritage Brands who own Australis, Le Tan, Revlon, Innoxa and more. Interesting. There are quite a few things in the Mode line but of course it was the range of five matte lip creams that were calling me. And at bargain price of $3 each, I had to give them all a try!
It’s hard to know what to expect from a $3 liquid lipstick but I really wasn’t expecting much. In the name of science I picked up the red one ‘Hottie’ and tried it on. Of course I had to start with red and I was cautiously optimistic diving in. It had good pigmentation in one swipe. It took a minute to dry down but it did dry down to a fully matte finish. It wore pretty well, with no flaking or clumping in the corner of the mouth. Drinking wasn’t a problem, just a little fading in the centre of the lip a few hours in but as with most liquid lipstick, eating anything oily pretty much destroyed it. Reapplying over the top of what was left felt pretty clumpy, I would advise removal before reapplication. I get a solid 6 hours of wear, if I am not eating and I like this for an everyday lipstick (I wore it 99% of my Me Made May Pics). Just see my removal pic? That’s after a makeup wipe, then soap and a scourer! A touch of bio oil brought it all without staining though.
Again, in the name of science, I grabbed the other four colours ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘Jadore’, ‘Exotic Jewel’ & ‘Russian Skies’ so I could swatch them up for you. The formula seemed consistent across all the colours. They all have the same simple packaging and doe foot applicator. I actually really like the applicator, it doesn’t have too much product on it, which means precise application. The only fault I have with the packaging (or the lipsticks) is that the lettering on the tube disappears after bit of use but since it only says Mode, it’s not an issue. The Mode website states that these are 100% cruelty free but doesn’t mention if they are vegan, so I would assume not.
So, can you buy a great liquid lipstick for $3? Yes, you can! If you try one of these, I’d love to see your pics – just tag me xxx
I was in no way paid or endorsed to write this post, I just wanted to share this inexpensive beauty find. I bought all five shades with my own money so that I could show you the pretty (the non red ones have been distributed among the Ask family).
