Market: Wattle Street Market {Fullarton SA}

October 23, 2017

Now that Spring has sprung and the sun is shining in the blue sky, it it time to hit up some markets to rummage through vintage clothes, peruse some handmade goods and perhaps find a bargain! Mum and I set out for the rather unique Wattle Street Markets at 77 Wattle St, Fullarton. Wattle street is a pop up market that is hosted in the yard of residential home and happens sporadically over the warmer months, best bet is to follow their Facebook page. As a boutique market, it brings together an eclectic mix of stalls from fashion and accessories, organic soy candles, skin and body care, towels and linen, art, homewares and delicious lunch and snack options and much more!

It was pretty busy and there were loads more stalls than you would imagine there might be. It was a really nicely curated market with lots to look and some very tempting items on offer. I saw some really funky super chunky knit items, lots of on trend but unique jewellery, handmade personal care items, homemade jams & preserves, gorgeous bed linens and more. There was a kids area, henna tattoos, coffee, kebabs and fresh squeezed lemonade! I snapped pics of what really drew my eye, with links to to the maker/seller, so you can snag your own bargain!

How cute is are these resin bangles? And she even makes a larger size for people with fat less petite hands like mine! But I was dying for that blood spatter platter in the top right. The maker of these resin creations is Jacqueline of JLM Designs and you can buy stuff from here Etsy or check her out on Facebook. Then I nearly died for these leafy/cactus print fabrics that Fiona from One Harper Lane had on display. We had a chat about the ghastly cost of fabric and how people don’t understand the real cost of handmade stuff. Fiona makes really gorgeous cot, bassinet & pram quilts, fit cot sheets, change mat covers, stretchy swaddles, cushions and other sewn items. You can check out her website and buy here.

Just inside the front door was Trish of Retro and Roses with amazing array of vintage goodness. There were 3 or 4 clothing rails stacked up with vintage and retro goodness. I was absolutely into those yellow heels but we all know I can’t do a heel that high *sigh*. Mum was into a few of the bags but left with out a purchase. But we ended up coming back! Her first choice had sold but she picked up a tan leather bag for $75 and was very pleased. While we were on the trail of the bag, Mum needed a mirror and the whole front room was an ad hoc dressing room. There was a lady in a long, bright vintage maxi that wasn’t sure (it was amazing and I hope she bought it!), a young girl in a striking 60’s tent dress (loved it) and another young girl in short black number, covered in gold embroidery (very jealous!). Trish knew her stuff and had a beautifully curated range of items. We had a good chat about vintage and I think Trish is setting up a new Instagram sales account. You can check out her existing Intsa here and her Facebook here.

So with my dual obsessions of wearable flora and pretty intense hair pieces, it is no suprsise I really lingered at the Lina del Rose table! I felt like I tried on most of the offerings. I was particularly taken by that sculptural orchid number. I was crushing on a number of pieces but I didn’t have enough cash on hand ($30-40-ish) and I was considering my poor bank balance. But if you read the above, you’ll know we went and came back. On the way between places, Mum offered to buy me a headpiece of my choosing, as part of my birthday present (not until November 22 but Lina’s was November 3). And the shopping gods must have been with us because when we came back we got a park straight out the front!

It was terribly hard to choose! I went with this massive, thick flower crown! I love, love, love it! It has all the bright, fun colours I regularly wear and some cherries too – yes!!! It even has a little sticky, uppy bit of wattle. My hair is pretty massive so, it’s a perfect size. And it looks amazing! Like this is my everything! When I got it home, everyone tried it on and was very into it. You might not think you need this kind of flower crown but I think you do. I’m pretty sure Lina was really happy to sell it to me because I will wear it a tonne and not just leave it to be special occasion. Because the perfect occasion to wear something wild is like Wednesday or Tuesday or Monday or Thursday or any day!! You can check her out on facebook or see her Instagram or buy her stuff on Etsy. I will be a repeat customer lol!

All in all it was an excellent market and I would highly recommend! Follow the Wattle Street Market Facebook to find out the next date xxxx
