Summary: This cocktail is a real oldie, in fact it’s pre prohibition, so if you’re having a Great Gatsby party this is just the ticket! I’ve heard the Gibson called a martini derivative but what I’ve read suggests it pre dates the martini. The name has several attributed sources, including a business man named Gibson who would serve his luncheon or party guests martinis while drinking water from a cocktail glass. He would know his drink from the others as his would be garnished with an onion. Cheeky devil! Whatever the story, I think the real, alcohol filled Gibson is delicious! I order this often when out to dinner with Mr Ask, in fact The Howling Owl makes a lovely one.
