Recipe: Yorkshire Puddings

Summary: Just the best accompaniment to a roast dinner

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup cold milk
  • Vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Pre heat oven to 230C.
  2. Add the dry ingredients to a bowl or large jug. Lightly beat the milk and egg together.
  3. Slowly add the liquid a bit at a time. Once everything is added beat until completely smooth.
  4. Leave to rest for 30 minutes.
  5. Place a 2tsp of oil into each cup of a 12 cup muffins pan (you can make one large one in a cake tin instead) leave the oiled tray to heat in the oven for 10 minutes.
  6. Whisk batter one last time.
  7. Remove from oven and pour the batter into the pans, they should be about half full.
  8. Cook for about 20-30minutes (longer for one large one) or until the puddings have risen and browned.
  9. Serve as an accompaniment to roast meat and veg with lashings of gravy.
