I can’t believe I forgot to post this! A few months ago I went to visit my friend Wiggy and her two little cutie children. Mummy Ask had bought the eldest child a Peppa Pig hat (she loved it!) and I whipped up set of bibs for her youngest. They were so easy and took hardly any time at all!
I printed out this free pattern and got started. I really don’t have very many ‘boy’ fabrics but I know Wiggy loves bright colour. So I cut out three pieces of bright, chevron flannelette to be the backing. I love the pop of colour and flannelette is both absorbent and soft on baby’s skin.
Then it was time to hunt around the sewing room for the fronts. I found a scrap of navy nautical print that was just big enough. You might remember it from my sewing kit post. And that sent me on a nautical theme. I dug out a scrap of pirate print. I made some zipper pouches out of this when I was learning to sew. The spotty fabric was left over from this anchor appliqué project. Which made me think of appliqué! So I appliquéd the whale on and added some hand embroidered details.
I simply followed the tutorial that came with the free pattern! I used Velcro as the closure, being sure that the soft side would be facing the baby and voila! A set of nautical baby bibs that are almost as cute as the baby who will wear them. This is such a quick and easy project and it’s a lovely handmade gift. If you whipped up some matching baby leggings to go with them you’d have a super DIY gift set. I know Wiggy was just thrilled! Go right ahead and pin this to your Pinterest board, so when you need a baby gift, it will be right there!
