I just love my big knickers because:
- They are really comfy!
- They show no lines under clothes
- They smooth cellulite and belly wobble
- No muffin tops
- They can be downright sexy!
I know some of you are thinking granny panties but I think they have a vintage appeal and look more proportionate on my body. I feel much more confident and sexy in these and you know how feeling good translates to looking good! I’ve been on a lingerie sewing kick, so I decided to make my own. I can make them look they way I’d like and match them to other things which is very cool but they are a nice quick sew too. I like to sew as much as I can but some times the thought of a big project feels too hard, on those days I can whip up some knickers. I actually call them ‘big knickers’ but I know many vintage loving gals prefer to call them pinup panties. Either beats granny pants! These were the basic panty pattern from Kwik Sew book, Beautiful Lingerie by Kerstin Martnsson that I used to make my 1930’s inspired French teddy. You may also want to check out the sweet and sexy nightgown I made to match these knickers.
The blue cherry blossom fabric is a polyester lycra with 4 way stretch. I lined the crotch with a blue floral cotton jersey, used in this tshirt. I used lilac picot lingerie elastic in two sizes (thinner elastic on the legs) for the legs and waist. That little knot of pale blue was a tiny satin ribbon that got eaten by my washing machine!
This is a red cotton jersey and a black stretch burnout fabric, both from Spotlight. I used black picot lingerie elastic at the waist and legs. I found the cute little bow on eBay.
I am really happy with how my knickers turned out. I know it seems boring to sew your own undies but I got quite a kick out of it. I love that there are endless design possibilities, even thought I tend to stick to my rule of three. Hi
is it possible to buy to you this beautiful panties?
thanks
Totally not boring to make your own panties!! I’ve been dreaming of making my own for years because I’m never happy with what I find in stores so I end up having panties that are just the ones I disliked the least as opposed to some that I love and are actually a choice! Making your own is the only way out but I’ve always been too scared because I don’t know how to work with stretchy materials. I’ve only ever done pretty basic sewing anyway so it’s rather scary tackling something like this, but they look soooo good! Well done and thanks for your post, it’s reminded me that I really want to try and I think I’m just gonna! 🙂
You should definitely give it a go! Stretch fabrics and elastic have their own learning curve but they are not really difficult. Having exactly what you want is the best part of sewing. I still make my own panties from time to time and am thinking of giving a bralette a go, so stay tuned for that xx
