Saddle up and yell Yeehaw! The ASG is a wonderful artist group and we are hosting an event the world renowned Adelaide Fringe! This will be a pic heavy post, I want you to feel like you’re there! I know, it’s exciting! The Plympton Group are hosting an event called The ASG Opens It’s Seams. If that’s not exciting enough, the ASG were among a group of 6 or so artists invited to be part of the official launch party. This is a mostly corporate and media event that heralds the launch of the 2014 Fringe Program.
The ASG were asked to provide 150m of bunting and 70 headscarves for the Fringe staff and volunteers. It was short notice but the great gals at Plympton jumped into the task! So, y’all know I’ve been sewing bunting! Each item was marked with the ASG logo. Mummy Ask & Ask Sarah from Plympton and Ruth from Marryatville attended a stall on the day. The theme of the launch was an old fashioned Aussie fete and the place was bedecked with bunting and gingham. We dressed up our stall with purple helium balloons, well dressed dress forms, purple and green lollipops and of course some flyers.
Ruth sat and stitched some lovely bibs (no iron) and Mummy Ask was out in the crowd passing out flyers and lollipops. I did my fair share of mingling with flyers, garnering much interest in her (of course) self sewn vintage style dress. Complete with crinoline, wrist pincushion and tape measure! There was a brilliant atmosphere and the ASG stall got quiet a bit of traffic. We were mentioned twice in the speeches, even given a special thank you and were presented one of five bottles of wine in thanks.
This was such an excellent opportunity to to put the Guild in people’s minds. Mummy Ask says that she had such interest from all walks, the burlesque dancer who made her own costumes to the lapsed sewers thinking about starting again. What an event!!
So just when I’m catching my breath after it all, Christmas beckons! Are you a sewist in Adelaide? Or maybe an artist? I want to hear from you!!! I’d love to hear your thoughts on this event, hit me here or on Facebook!
