Keeping on our recent theme of clutter, I thought you might like to know how I manage storage and get some ideas for your home. The Ask House is a small two bed flat and I swear I own every kitchen gadget and have lots of plates and platters, Mr Ask has enough computer cables to get to the moon! The ‘back room’ as it is known, was full of junk, the ironing board and Mr Asks desk, my books and the file cabinet. Something had to be done!
Okay so this is before. Yes, I am ashamed but you had to know.
And here is after…
We grabbed these shelves from Ikea and some storage tubs and set this up. The room is long and thin, one wall has a built in wardrobe and we have filled the other with storage. It allows for a decent walking space that you can put the ironing board up in. We hid Mr Asks computer in a shelf and just have a simple folding chair with it. It houses extra appliaces like the toaster oven and waffle iron, spare cool drinks, cables, Mr Asks tools, books that aren’t often read, spare gifts for forgotten birthdays and the blades for the food processor. Don’t be afraid to store things in unusal places. Think of how often you access things and put things away accordingly. Incorporate a step if you will need it.

If you are wondering where you could store a few things don’t forget the garage, under the bed, the tops of cupboards and vertical space – put shelves right to the ceiling. In my case this was a cheap and easy fix that stores what we need and hides the clutter. We never thought that we would fit it all in but once we completely stripped the room we found there were lots of things we no longer needed to store and many things got chucked. The room is now airy and spacious and I know where everything is. Anything I need can be grabbed in seconds without having to move other things first. I really do feel I am surviving life with flair. Of course you may need to throw some things away but you can find a place for everything and put everything in it’s place!
