I really am quite shy of giving advice on this topic as mold can be very dangerous. I have provided a guide to cleaning mold from various surfaces but please, if you have ANY doubts, contact a professional xx
To clean walls/ceilings/tiles/shower –
Wearing rubber gloves, eye protection and face mask (let’s not forget that molds can be dangerous) brush off any ‘furry’ bits.
Spray the area with undiluted white vinegar, I keep vinegar in a spray bottle for this.
Allow to sit for 30mins (or overnight but re mist with vinegar before the next step if it’s dried).
Dampen a cloth or sponge and add a teaspoon or so of bicarb and rub over everything. You may need to repeat on any stubborn spots.
You can also use a 50/50 bleach and water mix instead of the bicarb and vinegar or wipe the are with the bleach solution after the bicarb/vinegar method.
Please bear in mind that molds can be caused by poor ventilation or underlying structural issues and if the problem is persistent or very bad you should consult a professional or contact your landlord if renting.
For clothes and other washable fabrics –
Wearing rubber gloves (let’s not forget that molds can be dangerous) brush off any ‘furry’ bits.
Spray the affected area/s with undiluted white vinegar and leave for 30 mins.
Rinse the garment and rub undiluted dishwashing liquid into the mark and wash as normal, adding 2 cups of vinegar to the load.
If possible line dry in the sun.
For upholstered fabrics –
Once again start with rubber gloves and brushing off the ‘furry’ bits. Vacuum the area well.
Scrub the area with either clear hand sanitizer or 1 part water mixed with 1 part rubbing alcohol.
Allow to dry in the sun, if possible, or in a warm, dry, well ventilated area.
As always, please test these methods somewhere unseen as some fabrics may be damaged by these cleaning methods.
