Tip: Cleaning Venetian Blinds

February 12, 2011

 Tip: Cleaning Venetian Blinds

If the blinds are already relatively clean but dusty an electrostatic duster used regularly should keep them clean. Another method depending on your vacuum attachments, is to use the brush attachment in your vacuum cleaner. Once again done regularly is will keep them clean

If your blinds are very dirty it is worth putting the effort in and then maintaining as above.

Really dirty blinds (If the can be removed easily and will fit) they can be dipped in a bath of warm soapy water and hung up to dry otherwise clean with soapy water by hand
If the venetians are wooden put the effort in and polish them with a good quality furniture polish (a spray is much easier if you can get a good one). The polish will prevent dust from sticking badly and make make maintenance much easier

I’ve tried every gimmicky product and so far have found them all to be an exercise in futility (not to mention hilarity… picture the neighbours peering in as I’m there standing on a ladder watching my once lovely window covering fall ever so graciously to the floor) and as a word of warning if you are cleaning metal venetians it is worth wearing cotton gloves under rubber gloves as they can be dangerously sharp.

So there you have it unfortunately there is no quick fix but if you follow my above advice you too can sit back and enjoy the lovely view out of your window unmarred by unsightly dust and grime.

S xx
