Some of you may be thinking ‘gross’ but anyone who suffers from excessive facial sweating will probably be reading about the solutions mentioned further down already! Even if you don’t have everyday issues with facial sweating, these solutions will help keep your makeup in place on the dance floor or in high heat/humidity. Facial sweating can be ever so embarrassing – it makes hugs and cheek kisses kinda disgusting and very cringe inducing! I never had a problem with sweating until a few years back when a change in medication caused excessive facial sweating. Not a great side effect but not as bad as others. It’s not nice to be dripping sweat on to the things you are doing or to be surreptitiously mopping your brow every few minutes. Plus women have the added issues of sweaty cleavage (yuck!), drippy fringe and makeup sweating off. I’ve tried quite a few remedies, natural and not so much, and I will tell you that these were the only things that helped me at all.

1. Witch Hazel
Witch Hazel is an anti-oxidant and astringent that is extracted from the bark and leaves of the American Witch Hazel plant. You should find it in most supermarkets, chemists and health food shops. It makes a great toner or after shave treatment and can retard sweating. I find putting some on a cotton pad and wiping over my face before moisturiser and makeup helps keep the sweating to a minimum. I also keep it in an atomiser to spritz over my make up to set it, just be sure to keep your eyes and mouth shut. The alcohol in it will sting your eyes and it tastes terrible. I also keep a smaller atomiser in my hand bag for refreshing during the day as required. It really does help and others find it sufficient but for me it was just not enough.
2. Neat 3B ‘Face Saver’
Face Saver is a facial anti-perspirant gel. Yes, an anti-perspirant designed especially for your face! This was such a fluke find, I was waiting for a script in the chemist and found it whilst I was browsing the shelves in bored daze and I just couldn’t be happier with it. Some chemists stock it but not all, if you can’t find it locally it is available from online pharmacies. It is a New Zealand product so you may struggle to find it outside of NZ or Australia. Like witch hazel you apply it before makeup, just a thin layer of the gel all over. It seems to take a minute to dry fully and it’s worth waiting because I feel it doesn’t work as well if you rub in something else straight away. It keeps me perfectly dry! It doesn’t feel or smell strange on, although I am aware that I am wearing it in the way I notice sunscreen etc.
