So you have put the effort into washing all those loads of laundry and now they smell lovely and are ready to wear – except all those clean clothes are in a big messy pile ready to fold. Somehow it can be so hard to get around to folding and putting everything away. Well I have put together a few tips that will have everything done before you know it! Some tips will work for your family dynamic, some won’t but there should be something for everyone…..
- Fold clothes at the dryer or washing line before putting them in the basket.
- Give everyone in the family a tub with their name on. Sort the clothes into the right tubs and each family member can fold their own.
- Get the kids to take their washing off the line and fold their own.
- Get some tubs and sort like with like i.e. all socks in one, all underpants, all tshirts. It makes it easier to build a rhythm.
- Make your laundry work. Having over the door hanging space so you can hang items ready for the wardrobe. Get a wheeled rack with deep drawers to sort folded clothes into and use it to put away.
- Fold in front of the TV
- If you have a mountain, set a timer for 15mins and do what you can in that time. Repeating this through the day will get it done.
- Fold with a friend. I sit on the bed and fold and Mr Ask hangs and puts away.
- Chuck out, donate or sell the clothes you and your family , don’t use, don’t fit or don’t want. It’s hard to put things away when there is no room!
- Wash a load (or more) a day and make sure everything is away by bed time.
- Items that will hang when dry can be hung on hangers on the line to save time.
- Make a coffee and call a friend while you fold. It makes the time go quickly and makes it feel less like a chore.
- See if there is a problem in the chain, too little line space, nowhere to lie things flat, not enough baskets, not enough drawer space to put things away, and fix it.
It takes awhile to build a new habit so be kind to yourself and keep at it xxxx

I take things straight out of the washing washing and put them on hangers. Then they go on the line on their hangers. When dry, many of them can go straight into the wardrobe. Less ironing and less double handling.
do you not iron them? i must be doing something wrong 🙂
LOL! I iron nothing, I informed Mr Ask, long before he was Mr Ask, that I iron for no one. I wear mostly stretch and for the rest I have a clothes steamer. Mr Ask manages his own ironing on an as needs basis. That’s that in this house. And for those with kids, I could iron my uniform by 8. So there’s no reason for you to slave over an iron!
