I’ve compiled my fave bathroom and toilet cleaning tips for you. I will mention that if you use animal fat based soaps rather than shower gel or oil/glycerin based soaps you can expect a whole heap more soap scum. If your soap lists tallow as an ingredient, it’s made with animal fat.
Cleaning the shower, bath, tiles etc
Spray your shower/tiles with undiluted white vinegar, I keep vinegar in an old but clean spray bottle for this.
Allow to sit for 30mins (or overnight but re mist with vinegar before the next step if it’s dried).
Dampen a cloth or sponge and add a teaspoon or so of bicarb and rub over everything. You may need to repeat on any stubborn spots.
It will take a bit of work to get it sparkling but after that, spray with vinegar every day (or often, depending on how much use your shower gets). This will really keep things to a dull roar and you can scrub with bicarb as needed.
Cleaning the toilet
Spray any outside plastic or ceramic and leave for a moment. Wipe over from top to bottom (that is cistern, then lid, then outside of bowl) adding a little bicarb to your cloth to remove any stubborn marks.
For the bowl, add 1 cup bicarb, 1 cup vinegar and scrub with the brush while fizzing.
You can also drop a denture cleaning tablet in over night for touch up cleans and to keep it sparkly. Any brand is fine, I just buy the cheapest in the supermarket toothpaste isle.
Cleaning the taps
Run a cloth (or paper towel if you prefer) sprayed with vinegar over the taps to keep them sparkly and mold free.
Cleaning the grout
If you are using the above cleaning methods you shouldn’t have to much need to clean your grout but if you do you can scrub the grout with bicarb and vinegar. If it’s really bad (or a huge area) you can use bleach. The best way I’ve found is to buy a bleached based toilet rim cleaner (with the container designed to squirt under the rim of the bowl, such as toilet duck) to run ‘lines’ of cleaner on to the grout. Leave for 10-30 mins and scrub away the mold and dirt.
Cleaning rust or blue/green drip marks from sinks & tubs
Yes, the answer is vinegar again! Spray well and leave (if it is awkwardly half way up the side, soak a clean cloth in vinegar and lay over the mark). Dampen a cloth or sponge and add a teaspoon or so of bicarb and rub over everything. You may need to repeat on any stubborn spots.
Useful tools
A window squeegee and a flat microfibre mop can be great for reaching tricky areas and cleaning walls etc.

I love the idea of having this of cleaning. Well as for me, I love using products that are readily available in the store. But as I have discovered more DIY cleaning products and tips, I learn to appreciate more the value of money and reliability. And take note, it is indeed effective! Kudos! to those who share posts like this! 🙂
