Hi! I’m Sarah Johannsen, writer & creator of Ask Sarah – Surviving Life with Flair! I guess you could call me a self styled domestic historian. I love the history of how we lived, day to day, and how that led us here. I’ve always been into household stuff. I love Martha Gardeners Big Book of Tips and the book of household lore. As kid you just couldn’t tear me away! This love for the domestic arts led me here, to create this blog.
And most recently to write a book, The Girl’s Guide to Survival by Sarah Johannsen!
I clean green and old fashioned but I cook modern and fresh. But to be honest, I’d rather sew than do either! I’ve only been sewing for 3 years, although I’ve been fairly prolific. I head up the Marketing team of the Australian Sewing Guild (ASG) and also run a local group at Marion SA.
I am a lover of vintage, nanna chic, op shops and am very make do and mend. It seems obvious but I’m also a crazy cat lady. I’m not too fond of chocolate but love caramel. I always have a coke zero in my handbag and could never have too many shoes. By choice I live in a tiny flat in the suburbs of Adelaide with Mr Ask and out two frisky felines.
If you ever see me out and about, please do come and say Hi! I hope it’s while I’m stylishly sipping a cocktail but it’s more likely that you’ll find me head first in a bin of fabric or sussing out second hand!
