After a busy week of stitching skirts, I was completely ready for a weekend of relaxation and some quiet time with Mr Ask. We love eating out and I’ve been meaning to do some restaurant reviews for a while. We visited 3 different restaurants over the weekend so we could share a review of each one with you. We not only wanted to let you know the quality of the food but also the quality of the dining experience. I know that for some of you eating out means finding the time and money, as well a babysitter too and maybe it doesn’t happen as often as you like. Have you even gone out to eat, expecting a nice, intimate experience only to find yourself yelling to be heard across the table? I think it’s one of the fastest ways to ruin a meal and so do Dine Hear. They are giving you the chance to win 1 of 3 iPad minis – all you have to do is click here and nominate a noisy restaurant. Have a look at this little video. Can you imagine that?

The Place:
We kicked off the weekend with dinner at a local pub, The Highway Hotel. The Hwy is on the cnr of Marion Rd & Anzac Hwy and is pretty popular. It has an indoor/outdoor bar area where you can order meals plus a dedicated dining room. We had a 6pm booking on Friday night in the dining room and it was about half full when we sat down.
The Food:
I started with the vegetarian mushroom pâté and Mr Ask had the pork belly soup special. Oh my, was the pâté delish, I can see a restaurant rip off coming! Such a nice vego option. Mr Ask was into his soup but I think he just may have been jealous of my pâté.
Mr Ask grabbed a steak for mains and I had the creole rice bowl. The steak was just perfect and my rice bowl was full of spice, beans and veggies. I loved my rice but it was a big bowl and quite filling so there was quite a bit left on my plate when I was done. Sorry, I forgot to grab a pic!
The Experience:
The dining room was nicely lit and the sound was at a level I would have expected when we sat down but as the restaurant filled the noise increased. I wasn’t yelling or anything but you can bet that the next table could hear our conversation. I don’t know that it would be pleasant to be there with the restaurant at full capacity.

The Verdict:
Overall I’d say it’s probably a good mid price dining experience with vego options but if you want a more intimate experience book in early in the night.

All opinions are my own and honestly reflect my experiences. The restaurants reviewed were chosen by me. I received financial compensation to offset the expense of the meals and to include information regarding the Dine Hear promotion in my reviews.
