Our most favourite local haunt is JUNKTION (yes, it’s worth yelling) & this was today’s haul! Junktion is a fab opshop with clothing, jewellery, shoes, bric a brac, crafty items & a whole lot more. But it’s not just an opshop, it’s also a coffee shop with a beautiful array of cakes. It is the perfect place to catch up with friend for a coffee and a poke through the goodies, knowing everything is affordable – what a treat! Dropping in is just the thing to do in this more wintery weather.
You’ll be greeted by the amazing Pixi, the owner and creator of Junktion. She knows just what’s where and makes a great cuppa. Plus next week is the 1 year anniversary of Junktions opening day and there will be a sale all next week. To keep up to date on sales and events be sure to LIKE their facebook page.
We try to get there as often as we can. Junktion is a small suburban shop but when we visited today the place was jumpin’! There was someone rummaging or enjoying coffee and cake in every corner. Pixi really has quality stock, lots of interesting vintage items (oh my I nearly bought another fondue set & I wish I had the space for the darling hat box on the high shelf!! The self control I need for that place!) from garments to bric a brac but I adore the selection of crafty items and curios too. Pixi is a knitter, sewer and all round crafty gal and I always have a good chitty chat but Pixi is so vibrant and enthusiastic that her good mood is infectious! There is such a great vibe and even though it’s handmade hipster heaven, there is always people of all kinds in the shop. Unlike some places, you don’t need street cred to feel welcome.
Junktion hosts some great events too, they participated in World Wide Knit in Public Day, offering $1 coffee & tea to those who were knitting for the whole week. The profits of the shop fund Youth Leadership Training Initiatives and welcome packs for international students and immigrants arriving in the Marion community. Artwork adorns the walls which are part of a project called ‘Art of Respect’, encouraging kids to create art rather than graffiti. The pictures have been donated by City of Marion, and are available to purchase.
So, be you eco warrier, hipster hanger, refashionista, local lover, crafty cathy, thrifty buyer, opshop maven, rabid recycler, quirky gal or just someone who’s into coffee and cake, you’ve just found your new hangout!
Junktion is located on the Corner Marion Road & Macklin Street – (930 Marion Road) – Sturt – SA 5047, just near the entrance to the expressway. They are open 9.30-5pm Tues-Fri.When you visit, please tell Pixi ‘Hi’ from me xxx
