Tip: Making Ice Cream Without an Ice Cream Maker

Summary: Okay, I’m really excited about my new ice cream maker and you will probably see a few ice cream recipes here. If you want to try making ice cream with out the specialist equipment give this a try.

Instructions

  1. Make sure your mix is properly fridge chilled. Beat ice cream or frozen yoghurt with electric beaters (or in a stand mixer) until thickened and fluffy.
  2. Pour mix into a wide, shallow, airtight container and freeze for 30mins.
  3. Remove from freezer and beat with electric beaters. Return to freezer.
  4. Repeat the step above another 3-4 times.
  5. Leave in freezer until you are ready to eat. Keeps for 2-4 mths.

Sorbet without an ice cream maker

  1. Pour into an airtight container, cover and place in the freezer for 4-5 hours or until almost set.
  2. Roughly break up the sorbet with a metal spoon and transfer to the bowl of a food processor. Process briefly until sorbet is smooth and has a soft, icy texture.
  3. Return sorbet to container and place in the freezer for a further 4 hours or until firm. Remove from the freezer and repeat the above. Return sorbet to the container and place in the freezer for a further 5 hours or until firm.
