Sew: Capsule Mini Wardrobe – 6 sewing patterns, 9 garments, 28 outfits!

April 30, 2021

I made a capsule wardrobe! Why you ask? Well, I made this massive cool weather sewing plan. And then Patterns for Pirates & Made for Mermaids announced a capsule wardrobe contest. It was a perfect sewing storm!

So I made my plan. I wanted comfy pieces that I could wear around home & were cute enough to wear out too. I haven’t really made much ‘stay at home’ stuff but during lockdown I realised that feeling good in what I’m wearing is good for my metal health. Because I was already gearing up for some cool weather sewing, I had the patterns & fabric at the ready.

The Patterns

Bryn Brami – I love a cami for around the house, especially one with a shelf bra for that bit of support. These use only 1m (less if the inner bra is a second fabric & they’re super comfy

Cora Culottes – I’m made loads of these! They are my summer choice of bottoms & they look great over tights too. They’re really comfy & flippy to wear & that makes me happy. It’s also a free pattern!

Darcey Duster – The perfect layer for Autumn. I love how it looks with jeans but it is great to just chuck over leggings & cami. The length really adds some fanciness to a causal look. I have also made another version from sweater knit with a hood and front zip.

Peg Legs – This is my go to leggings pattern. It fits well, it’s a free pattern & it has loads of add ons so you can add pockets or a shaped waistband and more. It’s a super quick sew too. Plus I find leggings the best comfy pant around.

Layer Me Up Tee – Such a great basic! Who doesn’t need a comfy & customisable tee. I am really working on sewing more plain tees but I thought this mesh version would add that dressy vibe without losing comfort.

Cozy Wrap – When it gets cold, I’m all about throwing on a cardigan but when I’m home, I like to wrap it around me. So this was a perfect pattern. It can be wrapped & tied in front or you can tie it in the back for a more traditional cardigan shape. So wrapped at home, cardigan at the supermarket. I think it’s genius & I have plans for more.

6 sewing patterns, 9 garments, 28 outfits!

Leopard cozy wrap (P4P) Leopard rayon spandex from @spotlightstores & black cotton lycra from stash. This the only garment not made in April.

Black & mesh layer me up (P4P)Black cotton lycra & black stretch mesh, both from stash. I added rounded hemline

Are you ready for all 28 outfits?

I absolutely love every single piece I made & how they all work together. And even though the theme was comfort, these outfits can handle almost any situation. From the couch to the gym to running errands or catching up with friends or date night. As there were so many outfits, I didn’t accessorise each one but I think the right accessories could really make this even more versatile.

I have been wearing these outfits & I am just loving it. I can spend the morning sewing in comfort & then there’s no need to change into a whole new outfit, I can just go as I am.  I feel so cute when I catch myself in a mirror. These outfits are so much more fun than my shlumpy Kmart outfits of the past. In fact, it’s my goal to replace all my holey loungewear with me mades. So look forward to seeing more garments from these patterns. I think they’re great value patterns because they’re very adaptable and hey, two of the patterns I used are free!
