Market Sunday’s: Noarlunga/Christies Beach Op Shop Haul Round Two!

January 11, 2016

Market Sunday’s: Noarlunga/Christies Beach Op Shop Haul Round 2

For those of you new to Market Sundays, it’s an ongoing series where I take lots of pics of the markets or shops I hit and give you a bit of commentary so you can see the places I like to shop and hang around in.

This is a rather epic day of shopping! Just over a year ago, Mummy Asks friend M took us on a tour of her local op shop scene. M is a dedicated op shop lover and kindly offered to repeat last years tour, which has info about each shop. I’m going to focus on our finds this time because I remembered to take pics of M’s haul before heading home! The first three are so close, you can park at one and wander over to the others! Even the next three are just up the road. Christies Beach is a paradise for thifty shoppers and we were into it! I actually had a list of garments I was hoping to find. Mostly very casual pieces and items I’d like to refashion, so don’t think I’ve gone mad when you see some of my finds! Six op shops, three women on a mission and bargains behind every door…….

Market Sunday’s: Noarlunga/Christies Beach Op Shop Haul Round Two

Salvos Ministry of Noarlunga Community Church
Shop 8, 24 Beach Rd
Christies Beach, SA 5165
SOLD: On the day we were there, clothing was half the ticket price! I grabbed this brand new striped tee that was originally priced at $15, then the Salvos priced it at $5.50, which means I picked it up for $2.25. M grabbed a replacement gardening hat, some stickers and a Thomas the Tank tin for the grand kids, a lemon squeezer and those folders she’s been meaning to buy.
SPOTTED: An awesome navy blue romper with a tie up front and open back with gold detail. If only I was younger and much, much smaller! It was hard to walk away from that yellow tartan wool but since I couldn’t immediately imagine what I would make with it, it had to stay.

Vinnies Clearance Store
27B Beach Rd
Christies Beach, SA 5165
SOLD: This is a clearance store, so prices are low and the $1 rummage table held plenty of possibility. I got nothing here, although I did consider that licorice allsorts cocktail glass but when I passed on it, M was in! She also picked up a cow money box and a kimono doll finger kitting type thing and some clothes for the grand kids.
SPOTTED: Mummy Ask nearly walked away with this deer artwork and oh my, there were shoes!

Save the Children
Shop 1, 23-25 Beach Rd,
Christies Beach SA 5165
SOLD: So many kids clothes and toys here! M picked up huge selection of kids toys that were in quite good condition, along with a Simpsons glass and a very celebratory 60th Birthday champagne flute.  Plus she grabbed a glomesh purse in amazing condition. I scored a chic houndstooth pencil skirt that fitted perfectly.
SPOTTED: I adored this interesting striped layering tee, interesting both front and back! I was also digging this funky bag….

Salvos
160-168 Beach Rd,
Noarlunga Centre SA 5168
SOLD: On the day all clothes were $4.25 (or less if they were already less) plus a huge sale table of $2 shoes! I picked up two sheer shirts, one in leopard print and one with tiny doggies and a little black bolero cardi. Due to a queue at the checkout, I had time to look in those cabinets they have and I spied an OPI Gelcolor polish in the shade ‘Peace, Love & OPI’. I almost missed it but I think it was the buy of my day. M grabbed two toy guitars, a piano toy and some dinnerware for the grand kids. She also grabbed another celebratory glass, 40th this time and a couple of dishes.
SPOTTED: This immaculately (well, the zipper could have been better aligned) handmade costume-y dress was up for grabs. I always seem to find the handmade items and it really makes me wonder, not just who once wore it but who made it. I have a strange flashback thing where I imagine them picking the fabric and the pattern and toiling away. Was is a no longer needed costume? Or did it not turn out the way they planned?

Savers Noarlunga
T06, 12-18 David Witton Dr,
Noarlunga Centre SA 5168

SOLD: I really went a bit nuts here! To be fair, I was picking up stuff from my list. I grabbed two pairs of sweat pants in the standard black and grey, a cropped striped cardi, a big grey cardi and a super cute knock off pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers. M grabbed a kids party cook book and some melamine plates that will be great around her pool.

SPOTTED: This grey wool was super tempting but that would just add to my pile of grey fabrics that I still haven’t done something with. This odd little strapless dress (yep, it’s hard to photograph nicely but it is a shapely dress) is exactly the same as something Mummy Ask tried on in a boutique some years ago but they didn’t have her size. Back then she was taken but even though this one was the right size, she decided it just wasn’t her anymore.

Reef Side Recycle
2/100 Gulfview Road,
Christies Beach SA 5165
SOLD: This is definitely more of a new/recycle shop than an op shop but the prices are still great. M picked up a sheer black over cardi, a leather travel wallet and a cute towel. After my super silk fabric find here the last time we came, I headed straight for the fabric! And I was rewarded with 2.5m of tropical cotton print goodness!
SPOTTED: It took such restraint to leave that navy fabric, stamped with it’s details in gold and just amazing! But I still haven’t used what is in my stash. Also, those lanterns! OMG this place was packed with yummy goodness! All the fun and rummage of an op shop but much better curated. You need to visit.
Market Sunday’s: Noarlunga/Christies Beach Op Shop Haul Round TwoMummy Ask was just having one of those days where nothing took her fancy. She picked up a cereal container for dog food at the second Salvos, a tie up birdie shirt in Savers, a delicate cardi and a cookbook in Reef Recycle. She was pretty excited about my nail polish purchase…

It was hot! Like 37C hot when were were out and we really flagging after hoofing around a whopping 6 op shops! So we headed back to M’s for a cool drink. I must have said something that clicked for M and she rushed inside and returned with my favourite thing, fabric! She kindly donated 6m of black and floral sheer plus about a metre each of silver sequin and stretch velvet to my stash. M, if you are reading, I hope you can feel my hugs, kisses and general, unfetted joy! Thank you!

I know it’s been tough to read of these shopping adventures, so I will leave you with these pictures of M’s cat Rusty. He’s huge. He’s cute. He’s shaved for summer. He looks like a lion with his fur. And he is a snuggler! Happy shopping! I’d love to see what you find, so tag me in your FB and Insta posts xxxxxxx
