Summary: I’m a sucker for good bread, so I made my own
Ingredients
- 2/3 cups warm water
- 1 tsp yeast
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/3 cups bread flour (you can get in the supermarket)
Instructions
- Add the salt, sugar and yeast to the water and leave for 10 mins or until foamy.
- Mix the flour, oil and yeast mixture in a stand mixer with dough hook (or food processor with dough attachment or in a bread maker or knead by hand) and knead for 5-10mins until it forms a springy ball.
- Place in a greased bowl and cover with cling wrap. Allow to rise in a warm place (or float your bowl in a shallow sink of warm water) for around 30mins or until doubled in size.
- Pre heat oven to 190C fan forced, 200C not. Make sure the racks are arranged so the bread cooks in the top third of the oven. Place a cake tin 3/4 full of water as close as possible to the bottom of the oven (this helps the crust crisp).
- Knock the dough back and shape as you wish then place on a lined tray. Leave near/on top of the oven to prove for 30mins. I like to slash mine as per the pic, easiest way is to snip with scissors.
- Bake for 30-40mins until browned and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the base of the loaf.
