I don’t know about your household but if my fridge is full of crisp fresh fruit and veg in it’s complete and whole state, I know I’ll be throwing that lot out in a week. Unless I cook with it or prepare. Preparation is the power that drives better snacking and healthier choices.

Have you ever been to a cocktail party where dip was served with whole cucumbers and carrots? Of course not! It’s always chopped for you. This works for kids and adults alike.

I love to chop up veggie sticks when my fresh shopping has hit the fridge, and keep flavored Philly mini tubs with them for dipping. Or homemade ranch dressing, peanut butter or bean dip. That way when the middle of the night munchies hit I know there is a tasty savory snack lolling about in my fridge & I don’t have to do a thing!

I will often cut up bigger fruits like watermelon, pineapple, oranges, apples and pears as well & I will of course, toss anything likely to brown in lemon juice. You can even cut the ends of a banana and slice it into sections with the peel still on! There are tons of things to dip fruit in – yoghurt sweetened with honey, Nutella, cinnamon sugar or dessert dips. One of Mummy Ask friends always uses has fruit and yoghurt for guests after a meal.

Berries, pitted cherries, banana and sliced stone fruits can be frozen to make creamy smoothies. It’s all well and good to talk healthier options but I can’t remember the last time I just bit into an apple. If someone cuts that apple up, then you’ll have to fight me for it, especially with a nice piece if brie! So take the time to prep for your family and see them eating it right up.
